Time for another Twitter project! This time, I wanted to know which online dating sites and apps are the most talked about on Twitter. I collected data for three days. Here are the results:
Tinder is the most popular by a landslide (nearly 55%) followed by OKCupid (nearly 20%) and Badoo (15%).
It does not surprise me that Tinder is at the top; its target demographic is college-aged students with smart phones, and the latest Twitter demographic data shows a strong user base for 24 and under.
The data for OkCupid turned out to be highly skewed; the day before I started collecting, OkCupid put up a message to anyone using Firefox to access their site that Mozilla (the company behind Firefox) should be boycotted because of their CEO’s donation to Proposition 8 (an anti-gay marriage proposition). Three days later, Brendan Eich, Mozilla’s CEO, resigned. Nearly 60% of the OkCupid tweets were about that issue.
