Tinder, OkCupid, and Badoo are the Most Talked About Dating Sites in the Twitterverse

Time for another Twitter project!  This time, I wanted to know which online dating sites and apps are the most talked about on Twitter.  I collected data for three days.  Here are the results:
TweetsDatingSitesTinder is the most popular by a landslide (nearly 55%) followed by OKCupid (nearly 20%) and Badoo (15%).

It does not surprise me that Tinder is at the top; its target demographic is college-aged students with smart phones, and the latest Twitter demographic data shows a strong user base for 24 and under.

The data for OkCupid turned out to be highly skewed; the day before I started collecting, OkCupid put up a message to anyone using Firefox to access their site that Mozilla (the company behind Firefox) should be boycotted because of their CEO’s donation to Proposition 8 (an anti-gay marriage proposition).   Three days later, Brendan Eich, Mozilla’s CEO, resigned.  Nearly 60% of the OkCupid tweets were about that issue.

What else were people Tweeting about?   Stay tuned for a future post that gets more into the details.  For now, here’s a table with all the numbers:
